Episode 6: In the bleak midseason
Narrator: with the halfway point of the season rapidly approaching EE have had to temper their expectations. However, expectations still run high in the team.
Placido Maciel (coach): The season should start to improve now. We have experienced veteran Sylwester Pilarski entering a peak and he’ll be pushing for a final swan song as captain. We then also have an exciting period with DSC chasing the Valpa YC and Sadiq continuing to do his thing in DH races and there’s still the wide range of standard races too. I think over the next few weeks the season will start to ramp up.
Bertus de Keijsere (coach): We’ve got the next few weeks planned in a lot of detail and I’ve got to agree with the rest, the corner is about to turn.
Henri (manager): At the start of the season we had to ask two questions: 1. can we compete in division 1? and 2. can we replace our aging riders? In regards to question 1, I think we’ve seen that we currently can’t, or at least we can’t consistently but there’s still definitely progress happening and I think if we could time our division 1 entry slightly better we could improve our performances because currently we generally hit div 1 in the first 20 days which is the time when the Alpe and ZBZ riders are in TF which kind of kills our chances, plus we generally have a problem at the start of the season due to planning too many races. For question 2, we still don’t know. Brock Moeller and Jarvis Rodie are progressing well and we have to hope they can continue to because young riders have to come through.
Narrator: whilst a lot of this could be seen as false optimism there’s a reason that hopes are currently high. In the last week star rider, Lincoln Hannity, has started to fire and Sadiq Chakraborty, a young DH rider has become the greatest Bangladeshi rider of all time.
Sadiq (rider): Obviously whilst I’m delighted to have got this accolade it’s not hugely prestigious. But 5th at Trofeo Bajando is another step on my progression because it’s slightly different to the races I normally excel in. My strength is in my top speed and the end of this race is hard to reach top speed on, meaning it favoured a lot of my rivals.
Iancu Raducioiu (rider): It’s scary seeing Sadiq rising up so fast because I’m worried for my future, he’s taking the races I liked away from me. But in all seriousness most good riders get a season where they break through and I think this year is going to be Sadiq’s. Of course he’s going to be wanting results but if he can carry on scoring points like he currently is then he’s going to start to really become a name on the world circuit.
Lincoln Hannity (rider): it’s a shame that it took me 34 days to score my first points of the season but the start of the season has been difficult with the Div 1 classics and then having to help Rudi and a few others. I’ve been given my timetable now for the next 20 days and I think it’s going to be a super important section of the season.
Henri (manager): So far this season we have 448 points which puts us 132nd and only 1 result. It’s a long way from where we’d hope to be so the next 3 races need to ignite the results. First up this week we will have Epuyen where Pilarski will get his first captaincy in a number of years. Then on Thursday Basa will be racing in the Holyhead TT alongside Brock and Jarvis. Then finally on Friday we have Sagarmatha, a race that Hannity won the debut edition of. If we can score in 2 of these then I think the season will be going up at last.
